Annual General Meeting

Our AGM was held on Wednesday, Oct 14th as an online Zoom event.

A new board of directors was voted in for the upcoming year. A special thanks to all the gentlemen who stepped up, they are listed below.

The New Board

The following members have been voted in for the 100 Men Who Care Foundation (Victoria) Board of Directors.

IAN BATEY - LinkedIn
Born, educated and raised his family in Victoria, Ian is serious about professional growth, effective governance practices and the wellbeing of individuals and community.  Prior to joining Police Victim Services BC, he was Principal, IPB Consulting, where he provided essential advice to private, public and not-for-profit sector organizations built on enduring relationships, trust and transparency.  Ian’s career with the Provincial Government included executive roles in human resource management and employee relations, law enforcement, public gaming and aboriginal relations and reconciliation.  He has significant leadership expertise in business, governance, philanthropy, homelessness, affordable housing and major sport events through affiliations with the Institute of Corporate Directors, Greater Victoria Housing Society, Our Place Society and DC Bank PGA Canada Tour Open.  His current community involvement includes Board Member of the GV Chamber of Commerce and Victoria Open Golf Society and Member, GV Coalition to End Homelessness Steering Committee.

SCOTT BRADFORD​  -  ​LinkedIn
  • 20 years in Ottawa, 5 in Nanaimo and now living happily in Victoria
  • 6 years high tech sector in Ottawa - sales and marketing
  • 19 years non-profit experience as fundraiser and executive director (Ottawa, Nanaimo, Victoria)
  • Current Executive Director of Phoenix Human Services (80 staff, $5M budget)
  • MBA graduate, experienced fundraiser, events, communications
  • Major events experience - we did $1.5M yearly from 6 major events (13 years of this madness)
  • Overall fundraising was $2.5M per year plus capital-facility funding of $5M over 5 years
  • Board member of Rotary Daybreak in Nanaimo, board member Metis Association, Kiwanis Club of Ottawa member
  • Co-chair and founder of Oktoberfest Nanaimo, Co-Chair of Kiwanis Rideau Canal BedRace for Winterlude
  • Award recipient: Queens Diamond Jubilee, United Way of Ottawa Community Builder award ​​​

NIGEL BROWN  -  LinkedIn
Nigel is President and Co-Owner of Ruffell & Brown Interiors Ltd, now entering it's 35th year in business in Victoria providing commercial and residential window coverings. Nigel has been very active over the years serving on several local boards, and one international one, including:
  • Two- year board member Victoria Chamber of Commerce
  • Nine-year board member Victoria Better Business Bureau, 2 years as Chair
  • 4 years board member of Canadian Home Builders Assoc. Victoria
  • 5 years board member of Think Local First, 3 as Vice-Chair
  • 2 two-year terms as Chair of the International Window Covering Association
"As a very active member of the business community, and a member of the Uplands Golf Club, I feel that I could help our membership grow and would be dedicated to do so."

MATT COWLRICK  -  LinkedIn
Matt Cowlrick moved to Victoria, BC in 2011 and has been a passionate member of the community ever since. His volunteer/community work includes but is not limited to:
  • Participant in community theatre and local cultural events, both stage acting and music performance
  • Involved in fundraiser for local improv theatre company
  • Participant in multiple years of Ride for Refuge and MS Bike
  • Metchosin Days and Victoria Ironman volunteer
  • Co-organized fundraising for a medical clinic in Kpalime, Togo
  • Mentorship of new voice talent
Today, Matt's solo voice over career supports 4 full time employees and multiple freelancers, spans over 20 countries, utilizing multiple accents and a variety of voice types and age ranges. Some of the clients he has worked with are some of the world's top brands and multinational companies. In addition to his thriving career, he is co-founder and one of the organizers for a 250+ member voiceover group in Victoria and Westshore, which gives aspiring and working voiceover talent resources and a network to grow.

BRIAN MATHE  -  ​LinkedIn
In his signature t-shirt and jeans ensemble, Brian has developed a successful business in the automotive industry.  Brian has always maintained strong core values both in and out of business and believes that has been crucial to his success.  From Sudbury, Ontario, Brian moved to Vancouver/Fraser Valley, BC where his love for the automotive industry blossomed at a young age, including purchasing his first car at 12 years old.  During his time in the Fraser Valley he established himself in the automotive community, earning his Red Seal Certification for Automotive Technology.  In 2012 he founded his business, Brian the Car Guy, where he has worked diligently to build lasting relationships with an extensive network of local Victoria automobile dealers and clientele.  Happily married for 9 years, Brian is a proud father of two children, Benjamin, age 2 and Madelaine, age 7.  Brian and his family live in a 100 year old Arts and Crafts bungalow and spend plenty of their spare time on its restoration.  His family also share a passion for interesting, memorable vehicles and can occasionally be found cruising somewhere along Highway 101 heading to or from their home away from home, Oceanside, CA.  Brian is currently a member and autocross competitor in the Victoria Motor Sports Club and has enjoyed motorsports in various forms throughout his life.

FRASER RAMSAY  -  LinkedIn
Fraser Ramsay is a former major shareholder and Vice President of the Ramsay Group of Companies.  During his 35-year tenure with Ramsay Group, Fraser saw the company reach annual sales of over $20 Million with a workforce of over 100 at its peak.  Fraser played a major role in the negotiation of contracts with prominent organizations that include BC Ferries, BP Refineries and both the provincial and federal governments.  On the volunteer side he has served on the Town of Sidney Community Planning Committee and is a volunteer supporter of both Our Place Society and The Mustard Seed.
Fraser feels very fortunate in his own life and is wanting to give back to his community. He became a member of 100 Men Who Care Foundation in 2019 and would like the opportunity to contribute more as a 100 Men Victoria board member.

MIKE REILLY  -  LinkedIn
​Mike was raised in Kitchener-Waterloo, and graduated from the University of Victoria with a degree in biology.  He worked for several years as a habitat consultant for forest companies in the BC Interior but gradually shifted to more IT management as the industry changed.  After working as a project manager with a division of Hewlett-Packard, Mike changed careers to become a financial advisor with Freedom 55 Financial.  Mike is excited to help his clients achieve peace of mind for themselves and their family’s future.  Mike and his wife Karen are busy with six kids, three boys and three girls, ranging from middle school to post graduate students. His non working hours are spent in community volunteering efforts, animal husbandry activities, parenting teenagers and other domestic engineering tasks.

Mike was a founding board member, and is the current Treasurer and Finance Committee lead.

DOUG ROBB  -  LinkedIn
Doug is the owner of the BarterPay Victoria trade exchange and a principal in MicroCap Media, focussed on retail investor lead generation.  

An entrepreneur since childhood in Winnipeg, Doug and Janice moved to Vancouver Island 30 years ago and could not imagine a better place to live and raise a family.  Now that the kids are essentially grown and on their own, they believes it is time to give more back to the community that so generously invited them in.  Family, Hockey, Mountain Biking, and foraging in the coastal rain forest keep Doug happiest in his time off.

Doug was a founding board member, and is the current Membership/Outreach Committee lead.

DARREN WARNER  -  LinkedIn
Darren's slightly odd accent comes from being raised in England, New Zealand and Toronto.  A graduate of the Ontario College of Art & Design, his award-winning advertising and design career encompasses many of Canada's leading brands, creating TV ad campaigns for everything from Cadbury's chocolates to Labatt's beer. Selling coffee & donuts for 6 years as Creative Group Head for Tim Hortons in Toronto led Darren to the west coast in 2005 as creative director at Wasserman & Partners in Vancouver. Darren currently imparts his considerable experience and prolific ideation through his own brand & creative marketing consultancy.

He and his family have called Victoria home since 2009. His wife Jenny is a teacher, homeopath, and committed organic gardener, while his two teenagers are competitive swimmers, leaving no time for sleep.

Darren was a founding board member, and is the current Marketing/Communications Committee lead.
